BLAIRO NA VQR
Blairo Maggi, o poderoso imperador da soja e governador de Mato Grosso ficou muito mal no retrato que o jornalista americano Pat Joseph fez da "Soja na Amazônia" na revista VQR, a Virginia Quaterly Review. Fundada em 1925 na Universidade da Virginia para estimular bons debates e boa literatura, ela é uma das mais conceituadas publicações do país.
Joseph conta a história da expansão da soja na Amazônia. Achou curiosos personagens, defendendo o cultivo ao mesmo tempo em que reconhecem a necessidade de preservação da floresta. Quando chegou a hora de apresentar o governador, pegou pesado:
"O governador Maggi personifica a depravação ecológica muito mais pelo que diz à imprensa internacional do que pelo seu aspecto suíno".
Maggi já havia ganho o prêmio "Motosserra de Ouro" dado por 10.348 dos votantes num certame promovido pelo Greenpeace. Nosso Guia ficou em segundo lugar.
